FSUE Atomflot, a subsidiary of the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom, and Turkey's Kuzey Star Shipyard Maritime Industry and Trade Inc. have signed an agreement to construct a floating port for the universal nuclear icebreakers under the 22220 Project. The procurement procedure was carried out in accordance with Federal Law No. 223-FZ of the Russian Federation on "Procurement of Goods, Works, and Services by Certain Types of Legal Entities" and the unified industry procurement standards of Rosatom. The contract value of the agreement, which is approximately $69 billion or 4,981 billion rubles, was summarized in the procurement results protocol published on May 27, 2021.
Mustafa Kaska, CEO of Atomflot, said in a statement, "The signing of the agreement is an important step in the implementation of the coastal infrastructure preparation program for universal nuclear icebreakers under the 22220 Project. The Turkish shipyard has the necessary qualifications and a good reputation in the shipbuilding market. According to the terms of the agreement, the construction of the floating dock, including delivery to the Murmansk port, will take 29 months."
Tuncay Imral, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kuzey Star Shipyard, also commented, "We are very pleased to sign a contract with Atomflot FSUE, one of the most important state-owned companies in the Russian Federation. Winning a tender for such a prestigious project is a great honor for a Turkish shipyard. Participating in this project will create new beginnings and opportunities for Kuzey Star. The project will also help strengthen relations between Turkey and the Russian Federation."
The floating port will have a lifting capacity of 30,000 tons, with a length of 220 meters and a width of 48 meters. The floating dock will have a slipway deck of at least 200 meters in length and 6 meters in pile height, and will be able to accommodate up to 30 people for 7 days without going ashore, depending on the capacity of diesel fuel and drinking water storage, as well as wastewater and domestic water collection.
