Giant Floating Dock Breaks Turkey's Record for the Heaviest Single Piece Transport

Turkey is attracting the attention of the world with its achievements in shipbuilding. The largest floating dock built in Turkey with its drydocking capacity was produced at Kuzey Star Shipyard in Tuzla in 29 months. Lifting and transportation operations were carried out by Hareket Project Transportation and Cargo Engineering. After the construction of the floating dock, which can dive under the water and rise to the water surface by taking its load, the launching operation was completed.

The floating pool, which is the size of a football field, was launched with a two-day operation

Weighing 11,350 tons, this giant floating pool took about a month of work, including the project design phase, to be lowered into the sea. A team of about 50 people, including load engineers, worked on the transportation of the floating dock, which is the size of a football field and the height of an 8-storey building.

After the fine engineering calculations were made, the floating pool was placed on top with modular trailers with 440 axles and 3200 wheels. The 48-meter-wide floating dock, the largest load ever transported in Turkey, was loaded onto another 50-meter-wide floating dock, only 2 meters wider than itself.

During the operation, the cargo moved at a speed of one meter per hour. Weighing 11 350 tons in a single piece, this transportation broke Turkey's largest transportation record. 30 crew members will work in the giant floating dock with a carrying capacity of 30 thousand tons.
